National Skills Competitions

A key objective of the COVE-WENDT project is to promote vocational excellence and showcase the high level of technical skill required in the modern manufacturing landscape. To achieve this, a series of National Skills Competitions were held across our partner countries throughout 2025.

These competitions were designed to bridge the gap between education and industry, providing a platform for both students and professionals to demonstrate their precision, technical knowledge, and commitment to quality. The winners of these national events have earned the prestigious opportunity to compete at the International Skills Competition at ISIM Timișoara in late 2025.

As part of the COVE-WENDT Project, the National Welding Competition brought together emerging talent and experienced professionals to showcase the high level of skill and dedication in the welding sector.

The Italian leg of the competition, hosted by Istituto Italiano della Saldatura, took place on the 21st and 22nd of May in Udine. The event focused on the “Excellence in Young/Students” category, featuring fourteen participants aged 15–16 from seven different Italian schools.

• A rigorous two-day contest involving three welding processes (GMAW, SMAW, and GTAW) alongside a theoretical examination.

Our partner COMELF S.A. hosted the Romanian National Welding Competition in Bistrița City, creating a vibrant environment for professional networking and skill‑sharing.

• The competition included two distinct categories: – Young Welders (under 24) on the 31st of July – Senior Welders (over 24) on the 1st of August

• The event enabled a direct exchange of experience between established professionals and the new generation entering the workforce.

The Hungarian National Welding Competition was held at MATRAI Welding Technique and Vocational Training Ltd. on the 24th and 25th of September.

• Around 20 participants competed using the GMAW process on carbon steel. • Quality assessment relied on visual inspections and fracture tests according to CEN ISO/TR standards.

• The event was strengthened by industry sponsors SYRIUS‑TECH Zrt. and Iweld Kft., highlighting the project’s strong industrial ties.

The Spanish National Competition took place in Córdoba on the 30th of September and the 1st of October at the IES Zoco facilities.

• With over 20 participants, including both professionals and students, the event reinforced the project’s commitment to VET innovation.

• The high‑quality contributions from the Spanish competitors highlighted the crucial importance of continuous training and NDT excellence in the region.
